Someone out there is missing a fin. I’m sorry for your loss. But also… thank you?
Found this little guy while freezing my tail off on the reef — one man’s ding repair bill is another man’s canvas. Rolled it in paint, pressed it to paper, and let the ocean’s own hydrodynamics do the talking. Call it gyotaku for the surf-obsessed: no fish were harmed, only egos (mine, mid-wipeout, moments before this discovery).
Every ridge and rail mark in this print earned its place the hard way — through actual waves, actual reef, actual salt. The fin remembers. The paper listens.
If you recognize this fin: it has a new life now. Let it go. 🌊
A striking piece of surf art / wall art, this simple surf art is created from a reclaimed surfboard fin found amongst the sand, surf and reef that are lovingly, carefully and creatively dipped into paint, then gently pressed to paper in order to create a one of a kind impression. A modern interpretation of the ancient art form Gyotaku. This print would be the perfect gift for a surfer, or for a beach themed room.
Each piece of art is hand made, one of a kind and truly original. This piece was pressed during an art session in celebration of International Surfing Day 2022.
The art piece is an 11 x 14 print on Acid Free, 184 lb. 300 g/m2, Vellum paper. All paint is acrylic with a combination, of matte, gloss, satin and metallic finishes.
Please note that the color of the print may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings and neither the frame nor mount are included in the sale.
